Did you know Honolulu means Sheltered Bay? Honolulu is located in Hawaii it is also the capital of Hawaii. Honolulu covers the island of Oahu. It is about 2,400 miles (3,860 kilometers) from San Francisco. Sometimes Honolulu is called Crossroads of the Pacific. Honolulu has a lot of different foods, plants and sights.
There are lots of different kinds of foods in Honolulu. Poke Bowl is one of Honolulu’s favorite foods. It has cubes of raw fish with salt, poke, seaweed, onion, soy sauce and sesame oil. Have you ever heard of Oxtail Soup? Well, in Honolulu they have it. Oxtail Soup has Chinese red dates, dried orange peel, star anise, peanuts and dried shiitake. Honolulu also has many different kinds of fish. Some of the fish are salmon, squid, tuna and crab.
Honolulu is full of bright colors and trees. The mangos grow in most all of Hawaii’s islands. The mangos grow on a tree. Mango trees can get up to 50-70ft tall. Golden shower trees also of Honolulu well known trees. The golden shower tree is grown for it beautiful yellow flowers. You can see this tree grown on common streets. Strawberry Guaua is a tree that you many see in in wet forests. This tree is almost like a weed. It is on most of Hawaii’s islands.
One thing Honolulu is well known for is the sights to see. Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve is the most popular place to go snorkeling. You can explore reefs and colorful fish. It is located on the southeast tip of East Honolulu. Diamond Head is also known as Leahi (brow of the tuna). The British gave Diamond Head its name because the British thought they would find diamonds. The diamonds are not valuable at all. Manoa Falls is a 150 feet down the mountainside. On Manua Falls you can go hiking and see the waterfall. Manoa Falls is one of the most crowed trails in Honolulu.
Honolulu, Hawaii is full of many different things to see, do, and try. You might find something you love to do there. If you like hiking and warm weather, this is definitely the place for you. I hope you choose to go to Honolulu, Hawaii the next time you go some where on a family vacation.
